Presentation of Hybrid-Radio, DVB-T-Tagging and TPEG at Medientage München 2010
Referring to the term “switching intelligently” bmt presented a prototype of a hybrid radio with an automatic switching function between internet and terrestric for the first time. The qualitatively best and cheapest way of distribution for the provider will be activated.
Moreover, first results of the tagging project which is carried out in cooperation with the Bayerischer Rundfunk were shown. Tagged elements of TV programs like weather, news, sports can easily be accessed through a mobile/portable DVB-T receiver.
Another project of bmt at Medientage München concerned the latest TPEG application FPI (Fuel Price Information) highlighting the advantages of the TPEG standard as a basis of a future mobility information system.
The TPEG analyser enables the graphic depiction and analysis of several TPEG data streams in real time or according to recorded data.
bmt supports the project office klardigital
klardigital 2012 is an initiative of the regulation authority for commercial broadcasting “Landesmedienanstalten” in cooperation with ARD, Mediengruppe RTL Deutschland, ProSiebenSat.1 Media AG, VPRT and ZDF. The focus of this project lies on the termination of the analogue program distribution via satellite on the 30th of April, 2012.
bmt was charged to support the Berlin project office. The project leader Klaus Hofmann is assisted by Veit Olischläger as vicegeral project leader.
Further information can be found on www.klardigital.de.
Vehicle for Measuring Radio Signals
Due to a large number of new terrestrial frequency uses, dissemination and possible interferences in analogue and digital broadcast play and increasingly important role. bmt fulfils the demands of this development by expanding its business field ‘Broadcast Technology Services’ with a vehicle for measuring radio signals.
With the flexibly usable measurement vehicle, bmt has the infrastructure and the know-how to take complex measurements soon after taking an order and in line with demand.
bmt offers various services around the vehicle to programme providers, broadcast network providers, regulation authorities for commercial broadcasting and others who broadcast radio signals.
The analyses focus on the broadcast services VHF, DAB/DAB+ and DVB-T.
New Releases of bmt TPEG Products
Presentation of TPEG ON AIR, TPEG Analyser 3.0 and TPEG Test Playout at the TISA Meetings in Cologne on June 22nd and 23rd
TPEG Analyser release 3.0 is now available. It features all the latest TISA TPEG2 specifications including TPEG2 Message Management. A Demo version is also available.
TPEG ON AIR (Playout)
For the first time, we present the TPEG ON AIR system together with our customer TDF/mediamobile, who uses bmt’s system to encode and decode live TPEG services with data from several European countries in the language-independent TPEG way.
It is easy to interface any standard system with the playout through the standardised tpegML input format.
The full range of the TPEG service design can be set up with bmt’s system via manageable XML configuration files. This includes insertion of SNI service and network design, multiplexing of TPEG services, service components and message queuing based on priority and transmission statistics.
TPEG ON AIR is the only system on the market, which uses TISA standard tpegML as input and can create true dynamic binary TPEG streams, rather than only static file-based multiplexing.
TPEG ON AIR supports TPEG over HTTP (hybrid delivery). For the first time clients can combine an available broadcast service with point to point server queries. This ensures international availability, cost efficiency, maximum coverage and quick start-up scenarios.
TPEG ON AIR is not only independent of the broadcast multiplexer brand, but is also able to connect to all major DAB/DMB multiplexers. It can be hosted within the cloud, the bmt computer centre, or in your own playout centre. Being fully scalable, it can provide HTTP delivery to thousands of clients as well as a broadcast playout with high availability.
Due to our partnership with FHG, the HECA conditional access system is integrated into our TPEG ON AIR playout and the TPEG Analyser as optional module.
TPEG test playout
Averna has chosen bmt as TPEG technology provider. Using bmt’s exclusive TPEG test playout system, Averna now allows its customers to test the latest TPEG2 applications in combination with their Universal Receiver Tester™ (URT).
Options and opportunities for hybrid radio usage
Bayerische Landeszentrale fuer neue Medien (BLM), regulation authority for commercial broadcasting in Bavaria, is introducing a new concept of the chances and possibilities for using hybrid radio, which has been elaborated by Bayerische Medien Technik (bmt) on behalf of BLM. The concept aims at optimizing the technical distribution of a radio programme under cost aspects.
The goal is to activate the technically optimal and for the provider most economical distribution path in a radio device at any given time.
TPEG-Workshop “Getting in touch with TPEG”
Due to the success of last year’s TPEG workshop, two more one-day workshops in German respectively in English took place at bmt on the 10th and 11th of May 2010.
In addition to presentations about basic information, history, technology and specifications of TPEG the participants could apply their acquired knowledge regarding analysis and service design working in small teams.
Due to increasing demand there will be further workshops between the 19th and 21st of October 2010. Please send an e-mail to
firstname.lastname@example.org for non-binding seat reservation.
Broadcasting and Mobility – bmt Products at Mobile World Congress (MWC)
Bayerische Medien Technik GmbH (bmt) presents a live broadcast of TPEG and HECA on the MWC fair in Barcelona in collaboration with Fraunhofer IIS at their stand (stand 2E41 in Hall 2; from February 15 to 18).
The TPEG broadcast is realized through bmt’s TPEG ON AIR Playoutsystem. TPEG data can be received and displayed by the TPEG ANALYSER.
The Fraunhofer system HECA – High Efficiency Conditional Access – enables controlled distribution of digital content and is therefore a key technology for service providers who wish to address a restricted user group and establish a premium service. TPEG and HECA are a solution for transmitting travel information to motorists and dynamic navigation systems. Free and commercial transport and travel services can easily be combined.
