On 1 October 2017 the Bavarian local TV channels started their HD broadcasting via Astra. On two transponders, all 16 channels are available on 10 channels in high-resolution quality.
To use the much better quality, the viewers should carry out a channel search as soon as possible. The previous SD variants are still available until the end of March 2018. Then the simulcast ends.
The HD start of the Bavarian local television programs via satellite and the new “Lokal-TV-Portal” were the main themes of this year’s trade fair. Thanks for your visit us at the bmt-Café on our booth where we presented our current projects and activities. Impressions can be found here.

Bayerische Medien Technik offers the TPEG Workshop “Getting in touch with TPEG” several times a year in German or English. Usually the workshops take place in Munich or at your company site. TPEG is a protocol for the transmission of digital travel and traffic information.
The workshop is targeting all engineering staff from the automobile industry, manufacturers of end-user devices, broadcast network providers, multiplexer manufacturers, service and program providers and representatives from the broadcast industry. No previous experience with TPEG is required. In addition to extensive explanations on the standard TPEG, its development and the current state of the specification, the workshop also includes practical elements such as the analysis and the generation of TPEG services (live). You can find the invitation with a detailed program overview of the past event here.
The main problem of traffic lights assistance is the effort needed to upgrade the infrastructure. Especially traffic lights with their long product life time are unlikely upgraded within decades. And even in the case of maintenance it is questionably if public authorities or industry (car manufacturers) will or want to pay for additional functionality. The project tries to generate the needed traffic light data from floating car data. The focus is on rural roads due to their suitability: The large distance between traffic lights enables users to use information, the speed range for adaptions is larger, the traffic density and complexity is normally sparse (compared to urban traffic) and vulnerable road users (pedestrians, cyclists) are rare. In a field test the generated data will be tested and evaluated on some connected rural roads via a public smartphone application. In evaluations data are also transmitted via Digital Audio Broadcasting (DAB). The hybrid transmission via TPEG (mobile networks/ DAB) should improve data availability.
Project partners: bmt — Bayerische Medien Technik GmbH (data transmission)

Infoblu launches a commercial TPEG service via DAB+ network using the TPEG Playout TPEG ON AIR by bmt. The Managing Director of Infoblu Fabio Pressi explains that the innovative format of TPEG, combined with the wider broadcasting capacity of digital radio, revolutionates the existing traffic service in FM. He continues: “At Infoblu we strive a lot to make our services more and more reliable and innovative through the most modern technologies. This is the reason why we are proud to launch, as first ones in Italy, a service that converts the traditional GPS navigation device into a connected navigation device, with levels of traffic and the road events on more than 100.000 km of streets.”
The average travel time of the streets collected by Infoblu, as well as the indication of potential accidents and traffic bans, become an information directly visible on the map on the on board device. GARMIN is the first producer that will put on the Italian market the GPS qualified to receive the new service.
