The „German DVB-I Pilot“, awarded last year by IBC and the HbbTV Association, presents the current status of its service list proof-of-concept. The pilot group has realized a common view on the technical functions of the standard and the associated opportunities in Phase 1 (Sept. 2022 – March 2023). The Phase 2 (from Sept. 2023) addresses questions and requirements to enable the foundations for a market launch of DVB-I in Germany. The key points of this phase are e.g. the technical-organizational provision of the German service list, implementation of public value recommendation of the German state media authorities, server-side regionalization based on the postal codes, expansion of DRM and subscription services and the evaluation of new use cases for playlists, pop-up channels and media library deep links in content guides. The following 21 broadcasters, companies and organizations have been involved in the „German DVB Pilot“: ARD, Bayerische Medien Technik, Dolby, DVB, EBU, Fraunhofer FOKUS, LG, Media Broadcast, MIT-xperts, OnScreen Publishing, ProSiebenSat.1 Media, rbb, RTL Deutschland, SES, Sofia Digital, Sony, TARA Systems, TP Vision, Vestel, WDR and ZDF.
An additional Demo shows a real live implementation of ADB2 in a DVB/HbbTV context on a Smart TV, demonstrating the launch of HbbTV apps of German broadcasters via audio watermarking signalisation. ADB2 watermarking provides an alternative method for the delivery of HbbTV and DVB-TA signalling from broadcasters to receivers, where linear broadcast TV reaches the TV set over HDMI from a STB or HDMI-Stick.
