Who we are?
Bayerische Medien Technik GmbH (bmt) was founded in 1994 as a subsidiary of Bayerische Landeszentrale für neue Medien BLM (Bavarian regulatory authority for new media) and Bayerischer Rundfunk BR (Bavarian Broadcasting). We offer our services to all partners in the dual broadcasting system for implementing projects in the field of digital broadcasting. The focus of our work is on development and services for commercial radio and television companies in Bavaria. In addition, we prepare studies and provide consulting services in all our business areas.
Our focus is on software development (apps, HbbTV, TPEG products) and services (TV playout, FM transmitter network operation, frequency measurements) for commercial radio and television companies in Bavaria. Our wide range of projects in the distribution of audiovisual media for all partners in the dual broadcasting system has enabled us to build up comprehensive expertises in the digital media sector.
What do we do?
We have a high level of expertise in handling and managing projects in the field of digital information processing in the media sector. In our role as managing body in various projects, we act as a knowledge and information hub between all project partners involved, and ensure that project goals are implemented on time and in line with requirements and be presented to the public. We appliy our expertise in consulting and implementing advanced media technologies in a number of areas:
Management
Dipl. Economist Frank Strässle
Managing Director
Frank Strässle has been Managing Director at Bayerische Medien Technik (bmt) GmbH since 2002. With his background as economist and TV editor he is primarily involved in the ongoing evolution of media distribution by combining broadcasting and streaming technologies, such as HbbTV (catch-up TV, local TV portal, HbbTV broadcast audience measurement), streaming intelligence apps (MyRadio) or telematics applications (TPEG). In addition, Strässle was head of the DVB-T project office in Bavaria from 2004 – 2014 and deputy head of the DVB-T2 HD Germany project office from 2015 – 2017. In 2018, bmt acquired the FM infrastructures for commercial radio in Bavaria on behalf of its service providers and has become the second largest private antenna owner in Germany.
Rainer Biehn
Technical Director and
Deputy Managing Director
Rainer Biehn has been employed at bmt since 1995 and has been Technical Director and Deputy Managing Director since 1999. He is responsible for the coordination and implementation of technical projects and products. After completing his studies in electrical engineering with a focus on communications engineering, he started his career at the Institut für Rundfunktechnik on the simulation of error protection mechanisms for digital radio DAB. In addition to project coordination, he is also regularly involved in the implementation of our products and has designed and constructed bmt’s TV playout center.

Career

Your contribution to our team
- Participation in exciting projects around our TV playout center and automated broadcasting systems
- Supporting the development and implementation of software solutions
- Application and integration of artificial intelligence (AI) to optimize workflows
- Active collaboration in the team: from concept development to implementation
Your Profile
- Studying a technical degree (e.g., Media Informatics, Media Technology, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering)
- Interest in media technologies
- Basic knowledge in software development (e.g., Python, C++, Java)
- Enthusiasm for new technologies such as AI and Machine Learning
- At least very good English skills; German skills desirable
- Independent, structured working style and team spirit
